Challenges
The Municipality of Gouveia has identified a water management problem in Aldeias, a parish in the municipality with around 340 inhabitants served by 3 streams, and it is there that Part 1 of the Water team's challenge will take place. The activity will be carried out together with some senior citizens who live in Aldeias, valuing them, giving them a voice and taking advantage of their knowledge of the region and the evolution of habits, taking stock of the situation, thinking about possible solutions and designing the solution and the proposal to be delivered to the Aldeias Parish Council. Part 2 of the challenge will be carried out with a class from the Instituto de Gouveia - Escola Profissional participating in the COP and will consist of an awareness-raising session, using sociology techniques, on sustainable habits and water management in a domestic context. The day will end with a visit to CERVAS.

Lecture/workshop at a school in Odemira with the aim of raising participants' awareness of their water footprint and disseminating good practices for better management of water consumption.

Team members will carry out two different routes using different means of transport: electric car, bicycle, bus and on foot. The time taken to complete the routes will be recorded, as will their carbon footprint. At the end, they intend to interview local residents about their transport options and show them the results of their experience. Finally, the team will have the opportunity to take part in a debate (TV or radio), where they will share the results of the challenge, the constraints and suggestions for improvement.

The team will organize a bike ride through the city, using one of the bike paths, stopping at places that relate to the theme of sustainable mobility. At the end of the route, the team should ask the participants a round of questions to gather some information about Portimão's public transport network, how they usually get around the city and what they think could be improved.

The Sustainable Tourism Challenge, scheduled for September 21 in the municipality of Faro, aims to share with people the different sustainable tourism options in the region. Action to raise awareness of sustainable tourism practices among entities with an equestrian tourism label. After a presentation on the subject, participants will be challenged to discuss in small groups which practices they could apply in their own. This action should end with the joint drafting of the Charter of Commitment to Sustainable Tourism.

Workshop on the impact of forest fires, with the aim of establishing an emotional connection with the topic, highlighting the importance of forests for the environment and for local communities, making the link with SDGs 13-15. The event should end with an activity with the participants.

Construction of bird nests and afforestation and riparian re-naturalization of a stretch of the River Pelhe with the help of students, workers from partner organizations and other members of civil society, using compost from a local pilot project for the collection of bio-waste in urban areas.

Group dynamics with the aim of evaluating and comparing the cost-waste between planning with good practices to combat waste and planning without them. The activity should end with a reflection on the importance of reducing food waste, the relationship with SDG13 and some recommendations on planning sustainable meals.

In an "open house" format and in partnership with nearby hotels and restaurants, the challenge is to create a community "snacking" space offering snacks that would otherwise be food waste. During this activity, the documentary "SUSTENTO: Realidade Insaciável" by the Reboot Association will be shown (+/-37min).

Focusing on the concept of soft tourism, in which local experiences are prioritized through respect for local culture and the preservation of tourist attractions, the challenge consists of inviting some tourists on a "free walking tour" of Portimão's historic center guided by Portimonians who, at each bridge of interest, must share a life story.

A door-to-door model and awareness-raising regarding the use of the organic waste ecopoint (importance of separating bio-waste from undifferentiated waste, municipal data, impact on the planet and relationship with landfills). This initiative should be carried out in the streets of Portimão and in a shopping center that brings together the local population.

The team will cycle to the Geopark, where they will organize various activities to promote environmental preservation. The program also aims to raise awareness of the Geopark and the impact that climate variations can have on environments like this.

Dynamics covering the themes of sustainable water consumption at home/school and relating it to the pollution/disposal of waste associated with plastic in the sea/river (pointing to personal/routine consumption in people's homes or when they go to the beach). The team will raise awareness by sharing good practices and data that demonstrate the local impact of unsustainable activity, highlighting the consequences for these water ecosystems. To complement the challenge, other activities will be involved.

Following the news about the fires, the team researched and identified an urgent need to clean up the areas burned in the municipality of Odemira since the fires of 2018. In this sense, and given the recent occurrence of a large forest fire in the region, the team decided to go ahead with a regenerative tourism action by cleaning up and reforesting part of the burnt area.
